Oh, the gelid days of January.
Hopefully it will be a little less cold than it was in December.
Hello. I hope 2016 is bringing you positive vibrations.
This painting was finished in the last days of December of 2015. That month, along with November, was marked by some weird times of feeling so much cold it was impossible to proceed without tears rolling down my face. That cold wasn't the one you feel because it's winter and it's how it is supposed to be; it is that one feeling that you get when you're falling apart from the people you love and it makes you freeze inside. Those days were rough. Things got better. Pain made this painting but now it only gives me joy to look at it, because it's one of my favourites.
What I felt like making was to show my feelings towards what was happening through the two lovers (that are actually made of ice - they're icebergs) falling apart, not facing each other because they're not solving their problems honestly. Eventually some environmental concepts also came in my mind, related to the way global warming is making Earth's ice caps melt. So, the two lovers have tears of ice rolling down their faces, because it's not their fault they're falling apart: life is making it difficult not to.
For the first time I worked with a very reduced colour palette and it went ok. I mostly used shades of blues and purples to make the icy feel of it, as well as orange tones, as blue and orange are complementary colours.
I used ecoline liquid watercolours and some other watercolours that came in pans.
~ Have a nice Friday ~
